I lOVE VINTAGE

Follow my blog with bloglovin

Yesterday I talked about the cool vintage boutique Andy found for me on his phone. Well, here it is! Feathers boutique...and it was amazing. It was definitely the #1 vintage boutiqe I visited and after doing a little post-trip research, I'm not alone in that sentiment. The cute girl shown above works there and I just had to have her picture. She also had a super cute ring on that I was lusting after. I didn't think to take a picture of it while I was there so I just zoomed in and included it above.  It's made by a local Austin designer, Chrissy Bowlby and her jewelry line is  featured at their boutique (here's a better photo).
The boutique has a serious collection of great clothes, not to mention a lot of new Jeffrey Campbell shoes (Please Andy? Can I get a souvenir to remind me of Austin?).  I ended up with the above pictured items: 1. Turquoise belt - I have it on today with a bronze colored dress and it looks killer; 2. Brown leather belt - I have a purse to match it so it was a no brainer; 3. I love vintage, turquoise and jewelry so the necklace was also pretty easy to talk myself into.
I must say, Austin kinda took me by surprise.  I'll go back.  And in a world full of cities I have yet to visit, that's saying a lot.

I Love Congress...Congress Ave., That Is

After we left the hot dog stand (see yesterday's post), I was on the hunt for some thrift shops. I hit up a couple that had some cool vintage name brand pieces but I couldn't find anything that I loved in my size (one bad thing about being petite). All the while, my current husband Andy (JK;)) was waiting in the car because Little L was taking a much needed nap. Andy hates shopping and waiting in the car while I shop must even be worse so I had to run in and run out. When I ran out to the car, hoping I hadn't taken too long, to my surprise, Andy had been scanning Austin street style blogs looking for cool vintage stores to check out...isn't that awesome? He's so freakin cute. So, he found one that was amazing but I'll have to tell you about it tomorrow because, first, I want to talk about the food.
So we head to South Congress St. which is a very hip/granola/stylish area and I see the Stag sign (pictured above) and the pizza shop next to it (pictured upper right) and we stop to get a quick bite because, by now, Lauren's politely reminding us of how hungry she is.
We walk down the busy street, endowed in warm jackets and ask the cute little couple eating pizza (pictured top middle) about the pie and they tell us it's amazing and it's the best pizza in town. I was so excited. I had been in Austin for an hour and without even looking at my urbanspoon app, I find the best pizza in town...score! We walk in the pizza shop and order one cheese and one pepperoni slice and chow down. Okay, it's not the best pizza I've ever had, in fact, it was a lot like Sauce's pizza - good, but not "the best."  Luckily, everything's bigger in Texas, including the slices. Little L loves her some pizza so we all left happy (pictured upper left corner). Then we headed next door to Stag which was very cool.  It was like the guy's department at Urban but the clothes were of a higher quality.
So far, Austin's a blast.  To be continued...

HEATED CANINE TYPE

This morning around 4:00 a.m. something woke me up. It could've been anything because I'm a light sleeper. I fumbled for my phone and squinted at the time. I thought, Okay, I have 30 more minutes until my alarm goes off.  But, instead of going back to sleep, I started agonizing over the thought of having to wake up in thirty minutes. I looked at my phone again and thought, Great, it's only been 5 minutes. Okay I'm going to go back to sleep. Then the agonizing started again. So, I began thinking about what I would do if I could stay home and what excuse could I give my business partners. That thought was interrupted by another: Wait, why do I have to give an excuse? I know, I will tell them I'm sick!  It was like a tug of war in my sleepy mind. Then I could hear my grandmothers voice in the back of my head say "calling in sick is vacation for the poor." Finally, the irresponsible side of my brain waved the white flag to my responsible side and said, "Fine. I'm going to work."
I kicked my feet out of the covers and sat up as fast as I could hoping the jolt will create a surge of energy and it kind of worked. Next, I went to the bathroom sink and splashed cold water on my face, took a deep breath and, BAM! I'm awake!
This is actually a pretty typical morning for me. I don't think I'll ever be a morning person. This morning was probably a little harder than usual because I was in San Antonio and Austin for a wedding and my flight arrived late last night. It was a quick but fun trip so I'll share the highlights with you this week.
The above photo was taken in Austin. Andy and I were in downtown Austin and I told him to pull over so I could take a picture of the paintings on the wall (upper left and lower right photos) and we were lucky enough to have parked right in front of a cool trailer/hot dog stand (upper right and lower left). Downtown Austin reminded me a lot of downtown Phoenix: lots of cowboy and Hispanic influence. I can't wait to show you some of the places I visited.
And speaking of hot dog stands, they have a new one in downtown Phoenix on Roosevelt and Central across the street from the old Circles record store and it's a must try...if you're a heated canine type of gal, of course.
